Trainee Smart Meter Installer Programme (Fixed Term Contract until December 2020)

If you are applying for the trainee route to become a Smart Meter Installer you'll be offered full training to achieve the qualifications required for the role (in England and Wales this will include an Apprenticeship).

To apply you will need to satisfy the below eligibility criteria:

  • preferably have experience working directly with customers
  • display a willingness to learn in a technical environment
  • demonstrate a high degree of safety awareness
  • IT skills
  • a current driving licence with a maximum of 6 points
  • a GSCE in English, grade A-C or equivalent (click here to check the acceptable equivalent)
  • a GSCE in Maths, grade A-C or equivalent (click here to check the acceptable equivalent)
  • not being enrolled in another apprenticeship or government funded education programme

Electrical Qualified

If you are applying for the Electrical Qualified route to becoming a SSE Smart Meter Installer you will need to supply:

  • a current qualification in one of the following: MOCoPA single phase or multi phase cut out/ City and Guilds 2365 Levels 2 and 3; City and Guilds 2357 Levels 2 and 3/City & Guilds 2330 Levels 2 & 3/ NVQ Level 3 Electro Technical Services Installations/Diploma in Smart Installation (Power or Dual Fuel).
  • a current driving licence with a maximum of 6 points

Gas Qualified

If you are applying for the Gas Qualified route to becoming a SSE Smart Meter Installer you will need to supply:

  • a current CMA1, CCN1, Diploma in Smart Installation (Gas or Dual Fuel) or an equivalent aligned ACS qualification
    and
  • a current MET1, 2, or 4 or FCO1 qualification
  • a current driving licence with a maximum of 6 points

Dual Fuel Qualified

If you are applying for the Dual Fuel Qualified route to becoming a SSE Smart Meter Installer you will need to supply:

  • a current CMA1, CCN1, Diploma in Smart Installation (Gas or Dual Fuel) or an equivalent aligned ACS qualification
  • a current MET1, 2, or 4 or FCO1 qualification
    and
